Our PoW! (Protect Our Wellbeing) initiative – events and campaign page
Launching PoW!
Thanks to funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, 2025 will see the delivery of our PoW! (Protect our Wellbeing) initiative.
We were delighted to welcome the Bristol Lord Mayor this afternoon for the official launch of PoW! PoW! is an innovative initiative designed to empower individuals to explore and enhance their mental health and overall wellbeing by engaging with Glenside Hospital Museum’s unique heritage.
Showcasing PoW!
Our fantastic volunteers (pictured right) were in attendance today to welcome the Bristol Lord Mayor and talk about the PoW! campaign to our visitors and guests.
Visitors had the opportunity to witness the ribbon being cut which marked the official launch of PoW!
There was also a creative badge making workshop, tea & cake, a table top sale of museum curiosities, and the opportunity to explore the wonderful museum.
Our volunteers also talked to visitors about our exciting calendar of PoW! events which can be found on the link below.

Reflect, recharge, and reconnect
PoW! gives us all the opportunity to consider whether we take the time to consider our own mental fitness and well-being, and whether we feel confident talking to others about mental health.
During the cutting of the ribbon, Andrew Varney (Bristol Lord Mayor) made a passionate and thoughtful speech about the importance of the museum's collection and the story to Bristol's history. He also remarked that Glenside is one of only three museums in the UK which tells the historical story of mental healthcare. The PoW! campaign is also designed to protect the heritage of the museum, ensuring we can continue to tell this story for future generations.
Introducing Tea in the Turret
If you’re wondering about why we have a photograph of the Mayor with a huge digestive biscuit, we are now launching Tea in the Turret, a ticketed event which will run every Saturday from 29th March until the end of September 2025.
We hope to bring a unique and enjoyable experience to the public while raising extra funds to support our charity. The Lord Mayor enjoyed a tour of the secret turret which will play host to this unique experience. We thank him for his visit and ongoing support of our museum.
Engaging communities
This exciting project promises even more community involvement, engaging activities for visitors and a strengthened foundation to ensure the museum continues to thrive for future generations. Watch this space and follow our socials for exciting activities and events during 2025.
